Construction Industry Council (CIC)
The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is the representative forum for the professional bodies, research organisations and specialist business associations in the construction industry. Established in 1988 with five founder members CIC has grown in size and influence to become the largest pan-industry body concerned with all aspects of the built environment.
CIC provides a single voice for professionals in all sectors of the built environment through its collective membership of 500,000 individual professionals and 25,000 firms of construction consultants. In addition, CIC represents the views of the higher level of the industry (professional, managerial and technical) in ConstructionSkills – the Sector Skills Council for construction. ConstructionSkills is a partnership between CIC, CITB-ConstructionSkills and CITB Northern Ireland.
CIC established a Building Information Modelling (BIM) Forum to take forward the strategy paper published by BIS in June 2011. Chaired by Rob Manning, Past President of CIBSE, the group is working closely with the Government BIM task Group and other industry bodies to take forward a main recommendation in the Innovation and Growth Report on Low Carbon Construction.
