Leading institutes, trade associations and professional bodies representing the built environment, have joined together to form the BIM4FM group, supported by the Cabinet Office Government Property Unit.
Working in collaboration, the group’s purpose is to champion facilities management’s involvement with Building Information Modelling (BIM) projects. BIM4FM would like to ensure that the industry works together to support and educate facilities managers, owners and occupiers, as well as developing stronger relationships with other members of the built environment supply chain.
The group has set itself some initial tasks which include:
- Defining what BIM means to FM
- Identifying the benefits of BIM & GSL to FM and for owners and occupiers
- Raising awareness of BIM & GSL from a strategic and operational (FM) perspective
- Producing guidance/communication and documentation for FMs as outputs where appropriate.
The BIM4FM group carried out a survey in early summer 2013 to establish the current levels of awareness on BIM among end users, owners and occupiers. A summary of these results is available to download here.
You can join discussions with the BIFM4FM group via their Linked in page.
The BIFM4FM group is made up with representatives from:
BIS – Business, Innovation & Skills BIM Task Group
BSRIA – BSRIA
All of these organisations have a strong interest in ensuring FMs recognise the importance of raising the profile of BIM with end users, occupiers and across the facilities management community.
