The Northwest BIM Group has been created to provide a point of contact within the region for anyone wanting to know more about BIM and aims to help professionals in the regions with their BIM queries, specifically in regards to HM Governments 2016 BIM and GSL Mandate but also the wider advantages and implications of BIM adoption.
Pozzoni Architects IT Director and Head of BIM, Mark Stodgell has been appointed by the CIC to chair the BIM Group in the North West.
Unfortunately the Group has no funding so all the activities of the Group are arranged through the goodwill of those involved. Offers of free venues around the region for 20-50 people with tea and coffee would be appreciated.
In February 2013 a steering group was formed, which consists of representatives of construction industry trade bodies and professional institutions. The North West Group is trying to ensure that all parts of the industry have access to information
about BIM in general and the Government’s requirements, particularly the small business’s in the region. To that end a very close relationship has been formed with Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the largest Chamber in the UK.
Of course the North West is a vibrant and diverse region which reaches from Chester to Carlisle and it is important that the Group reaches out to all areas. Although at present the main drive is from Manchester the Group will look to hold events throughout the region in the coming year.
The aim of the Group is not to replicate what other industry bodies are doing, but to act as a glue, bringing the various parts of the industry together, ensuring that a consistent correct message is being put across. It’s aim is also to lobby those industry bodies not engaging with BIM in the region and perhaps provide sectors with no representation some guidance.
